Structure illustrations

The following pages contain structural examples that are based on the cost-effective insulation characteristics of closed-cell extruded polystyrene foam (XPS); in particular, its stiffness and compressive strength capacity and utilising its high insulation characteristic against water vapours.

The goal of designing the structures has been their overall safe and practical functionality in building applications. In addition, special attention has been paid to the easy and simple installation procedure, which promotes achieving high-quality end results.

The development work for the structures was done in co-operation with the Structural Engineering Laboratory of the Tampere University of Technology and Finnfoam Oy. Henri Nieminen, MS, participated from Finnfoam Oy and the participants from the Tampere University of Technology were Ralf Lindberg, PhD, Matti Pentti, PhD, Jussi Mattila, PhD in Engineering, Jukka Lahdensivu, Licenciate in Engineering, Jommi Suonketo, MS, and Tomi Rajala, student in Engineering and diploma project worker.

The suitability of all of the presented structure types for the intended application should be confirmed by a qualified structural designer. All the structural illustrations are made to satisfy Finnish building regulations. All illustrations are available online also in .dwg format.
