BREEAM
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is an international environmental classification system for construction, which is used to assess ecological, social, and financial responsibility. BREEAM guides the design process, construction, and use of the building and the scoring accounts for national differences in legislation, conditions, and practices.
Material selection has the biggest impact on the calculation of a BREEAM score. Finnfoam Oy's insulation solutions help our customers achieve the desired BREEAM classification according to the following BREEAM criteria based on the BREEAM International New Construction 2016 document:
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Energy efficiency (Ene 01)
Aim:
To recognize and encourage buildings designed to minimize operational energy demand, primary energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
How Finnfoam can help:
Finnfoam’s mold-proof, plastic-based thermal insulation products can be used to reduce loss of heat in buildings to effectively decrease structural thermal loss, thus producing buildings that are structurally more energy-efficient. Energy-efficiency also has a significant impact of on the life-cycle environmental impact of a building (see materials).
MATERIALS
Life cycle impacts (Mat 01) and Responsible sourcing of materials and Insulation (Mat 03 and Mat 04).
Aim:
To recognize and encourage the use of sustainable and appropriate life-cycle assessment tools and, as a result, the use of construction materials with a low environmental impact (including embodied carbon) over the full life cycle of the building.
How Finnfoam can help:
An Environmental Product Declaration (RTS EPD) is prepared for each Finnfoam product.
Structures created using Finnfoam insulation products do not need separate vapor barriers or windproofing panels, which means that they also reduce the consumption of other materials.
Finnfoam Oy has implemented an ISO 9001 Quality Management System and an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, both of which are certified and audited.
HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Indoor air quality (Hea 02)
Objective:
To recognize and encourage the construction of healthy internal environments.
How Finnfoam can help:
The Building Information System RTS has granted our thermal insulation products the best emission rating for construction materials.
